Calculus Tutoring in the Garden City Area

It is not a small accomplishment that your child has made their way into a Calculus class. However, Calculus is difficult. A student, who has no history of math difficulty, may find that Calculus is where they begin to struggle. Whether your child has a history of needing help with math, or it is one of their better subjects, it is important to use Calculus Math Tutoring as soon as you see a problem arise. This is especially true for a subject, such as Calculus, that requires a higher level of math skills.

An Explanation of Calculus and Why it is Important

High school students usually take Calculus in grades 12, although some high school students may not take it at all. Depending on the major they choose in college, they may never have to take Calculus. Calculus has two branches- differential calculus and integral calculus. These two branches are related to one another through the fundamental theorem of calculus. Some of the terms and concepts you will see in your child's textbook include:
  • Derivatives
  • Integrals
  • Functions
  • Limits
  • Infinite Series
Calculus is called Algebra 3 by some, but really it is so much more. Ultimately, it is the gateway to higher levels of mathematical analysis, and there are significant differences between Calculus and Algebra. If there were not a great difference between the two your child would not struggle to understand this subject.

Engineering and medicine are career fields that require Calculus. One of the reasons these fields need this course can be explained by first explaining a difference between Algebra and Calculus. While Algebra is concerned with measuring the slope of a straight line, calculus measures the slope of the curved line.

Engineers do not design perfectly straight roads, and the human body is not made of rectangles, square, triangles and such, but many curved parts. For the engineer, this course is practice for the math they will need to design structures, and for the doctor, it is needed because it helps them develop important analytical skills they need in order to treat the body.

You may not have taken a Calculus class in high school or in college, so the Calculus topics your adolescent is struggling to understand may be overwhelming to you as well. However, they are not overwhelming to a Calculus Math Tutor such as Jacqueline, because of her knowledge of the subject.

She will work with your adolescent to figure out the topics they need help with and create a tutoring plan. It may be they need to review topics from a previous math class, or they are confused by new ideas. Some of the ways she can help your child include:
  • Review any previous math concepts from Algebra, Geometry or Trigonometry.
  • Review the basic topics found in Calculus in order to build a foundation for harder ones.
  • Help them understand concepts explained in the textbook.
  • Give practice problems and worksheets.
  • Help with test preparation.
Ultimately, it will take commitment to get better at Calculus, but if your child has made it to this level, they are likely invested in the process. Calculus is a hard subject and your child will need to commit a great deal of time and energy to studying.

If they are having difficulty, then they will have to work that much more to grasp the topics. What they will need from you is the willingness to get help from a tutor. This will serve to show them your support. They will know they are not alone in their struggle to learn Calculus.

"Jacqueline is an amazing tutor and teacher of math. She is kind, considerate, and sincerely cares about the progress of my oldest son, who started falling behind when he enrolled in sports.

We didn't want to take him off  the team because of his grades, so hiring a Math Tutor was a perfect solution for us.

Jacqueline not only improved is his grades in math, but also gave him study habits for his other subjects.

Now, our son does well in school and sports."
